You can learn more about Overkill's The Walking Dead by visiting the official website. Is it a petty complaint? Absolutely, but gameplay feel is everything for co-op shooters like The Walking Dead, so if clobbering zombies isn't ridiculously fun, what else is there? That said, Overkill still has plenty of time to fix this and make The Walking Dead a truly amazing game, and I genuinely hope they manage to do just that because this world sure could use more challenging co-op games. I want to see zombies crumble into pieces when hit by a giant plank of wood, not just get bounced back a little and then continue on as normal. It's still in development so I won't judge it too harshly just yet, though from what Overkill has shown so far the combat really lacks a lot of the punch and weightiness that makes zombie games satisfying to play. And with that said, have a gander:Īs a fan of both Payday 2 and zombie games in general, I must admit I was looking forward to Overkill's The Walking Dead, but after this video I feel like a lot of that excitement has washed away. The video below includes some developer commentary, so if you're not interested in the talking and want to get straight to the zombie-smashing, skip to around 8:30 in the video. If you're interested in the actual gameplay, however, I am glad to say that Overkill has now released a rather lengthy gameplay preview as well. They'll give you a pretty decent idea of the sort of tone Overkill is going for with The Walking Dead. If you haven't already seen them, I would highly recommend you check out the four character introduction videos they released a little while back. Overkill, the studio behind the Payday series, has been working on a four player co-op FPS set in The Walking Dead universe for quite a long time now.
